A difficult decision

I've decided to have Taboo put down. I've been thinking about it for awhile. He's old and sick more often and has fat tumors all over him. But the main reason is that he keeps biting other peoples dogs. Yesterday, he bit our neighbors dog. I was standing there talking to the neighbor and the dog were sniffing each other and out of nowhere, Taboo just bit her right on the snout. I checked the dogs face for any cuts and didnt see anything, but about a half hour later, my neighbor called saying that she found a cut right under the dogs eye. Last year, when we tried that roommate thing for awhile, Taboo bit her dog, and the year before that when we tried to get Avery a puppy, Taboo bit him too.

He just keeps doing it and his behavior just keeps getting more aggressive toward people too. He keeps barking ferociously at the other neighbors when they walk past. I am very afraid that the day will come when he will bite a person, so I'm just going to have him put down. I dont know what else to do. I dont want to have a dog that I cant even trust to put out on his chain. I just cant risk it. It makes me so extremely sad to think about not having him anymore. He's been with me for so long and is such a solid part of my life. I've had him since my senior year of high school...almost 12 years now. Through all of the ups and downs in my life, he has always been there. He's always been my rock. Without him, I will truly be all alone.

Alisha, I am so sorry. I know it isn't a easy decision, but it sounds like it might be the right one. It's a loving choice that you're making...but I know that doesn't make it any easier.

It is always a hard thing to do. We had to put down Navarre when he was ill. He was unable to move about and was in lots of pain. It was still hard.
It does get better. Give yourself some time.

Thanks so much for all of your supporting words. I've made arrangements to do "the deed" sometime next week.

Oh, man. I'm sorry Alisha. I'm getting a lump in my throat thinkin bout when we had to decide to put Peanut down--she was with us for 14 and a half years. It still makes me sad over 3 years later.
It really is a difficult decision to make. How is Avery taking it?
Call me if you wanna talk...

Kas...

Avery is taking it the same way he takes everything...very unemotionally, very detached. It's like he has no feelings whatsoever...about anything...ever!

I do want to talk (not necessarily about that). I tried to call you last weekend or something. Call me sometime when you have free cell phone minutes.

I'm so happy to hear about the progress on the house! That's so exciting...next year when I come visit, it will be in YOUR house. so cool!

I know it's a long way off until you close...but CONGRATS!

besos.

When I had to put Leo down, it was and still is the hardest thing I've ever done. He was almost 15 and was getting very ill. I LOVED that dog. It will get easier, but you'll never forget. I still have not been able to get another dog.
And you are not alone....
